In a continuation of an interview conducted on November 10, 1997, Mindiola discusses relations of Mexican Americans with other ethnic groups and other Latinos, with specific reference to Houston, Texas, and to brown-black relations. He also talks about women in politics and government in the Houston area, and the reasons for lack of participation by Mexican American organizations in support of academic tenure for Mexican Americans. Mindiola provides information about the founding of the University of Houston's Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS), its initial funding, and its. Budget history, as well as on its focus and its budget at the time of the interview. He also reveals his hopes for the Center's future and the future of Hispanics and their growing influence.

Anastacio "Tatcho" Mindiola, Jr., was born in Houston in 1939. He studied at the University of Houston from 1962-1970, receiving an undergraduate business degree and a master's degree in sociology. He received his Ph. D. from Brown University in 1978. Mindiola is an associate professor of sociology at UH and has been director of the UH Center for Mexican American Studies since 1980.
